  Programs & Instruction
The First Tee of Willamette Valley offers programs and instruction which focus on developing life skills for young people using the game of golf as a vehicle. Classes are held at RiverRidge Golf Complex, with sessions held throughout the spring, summer, and fall. The majority of classes are conducted during summer vacation from June through August; the program is designed to be flexible, enabling youth to participate in other activities while still enjoying the experience of The First Tee.
  Program Structure
The First Tee golf instruction and Life Skills Program are parallel curricula designed for the different abilities and capabilities of participants in each of the four program levels. Each level consists of six life skills modules, and every module contains a “core” lesson to which all participants must be exposed. In addition, each module includes optional activities. Some give participants additional practice in the core life skills, while others deal with the application of life skills to non-golf situations at home or school.

  The First Tee Experience
The First Tee Experience includes The First Tee Certification Process which has five general requirements/major elements: core lesson exposure, life skills application, golf skills application, life skills knowledge, and golf knowledge.
  Manners Classes
In manners lessons we will address how proper manners (such as introducing oneself and looking someone in the eye while speaking) can help develop positive relationships with others. This will be an opportunity for The First Tee participants to learn the proper way of conducting business with other people, and will also teach participants to respect others around them. Writing thank you letters will also be a part of manners instruction, giving participants a structured opportunity to say “thank you” to those who help make The First Tee of Willamette Valley a special program. By keeping our sponsors informed of the progress of individuals in The First Tee, the program becomes more enriching for people involved at every level. Proper writing skills and a sense of responsibility will increase in each individual with the inclusion of this requirement.

  Equipment
All The First Tee golf equipment is color-coded based on length. This ensures that the participants always have properly-fit clubs. Golf clubs are available at all courses and our driving range for classes, clinics, practice and play sessions. There is no charge for participants to borrow the equipment. Participants borrowing equipment are responsible for returning it in a clean, safe, and ready-to-use condition.

The First Tee Life Skills Experience

The First Tee Life Skills Experience is one of the unique features that differentiates The First Tee from many other successful junior golf programs.  Through the Life Skills Experience, participants learn valuable lessons about the importance of maintaining a positive attitude; how to make decisions by thinking about the possible consequences and how to define and set goals from the golf course to everyday life.
The First Tee Certification Process

The First Tee wants everyone who completes The First Tee Experience to have acquired basic golf skills and to be able to demonstrate certain fundamental life skill concepts – such as interpersonal communication and the importance of rules and etiquette.
The First Tee Coach

The First Tee Coach Program is an educational training program that prepares staff and volunteers at Chapters of The First Tee to deliver The First Tee Life Skills Experience, which includes the TARGET program, as well as the Par, Birdie, Eagle and Ace levels of certification.
Assistant Coach Training
